David and Victoria Beckham are having a bad case of ‘keeping up with the Peltz’s’ after son Brooklyn announced his engagement to his heiress girlfriend Nicola Peltz.
Brooklyn, 21, and Nicola, 25, revealed their plans for a $7.2m wedding next year and sources say his folks are tearing their hair out over saving financial face alongside the Nicole’s billionaire family.
“It couldn’t come at a worse time,” says a family insider. “There has never been one moment in their lives they’d imagine their kids would be marrying someone richer than them, but Nicola’s folks are serious money and make the Beckhams look like peasants.”
Nicola’s fund manager dad Nelson, 78, is worth a whopping $2.2 billion while David, 45, and Victoria, 46, aren’t even close to half that. “Nicola is Nelson’s only daughter so he’s set aside serious money for her wedding,” adds the insider. “With all the money problems David and Victoria have had over the past few years, their fortune is nowhere near what the estimates say. David and Victoria have gone to great lengths to hide their financial problems and this wedding is going to bust it wide open. They’re at each other’s throats trying to figure out how to get hold of some serious cash.”
Already David has been begging Victoria to do the Spice Girls reunion tour and friends say he needs it just to keep his Miami soccer project afloat. “With American sports on hold, he’s completely stuck haemorrhaging money with very little coming in,” says the pal. “Brooklyn seems to think Nicola’s folks will pay for it all, but that’s simply not going to happen. They’d never live down the embarrassment.”
