New Idea’s dream analyst, Susan Taylor, explains the meaning of your dreams

QI had a dream about my mother, who I lost two-and-ahalf years ago. In it, we travelled by train and bus to the Sydney suburb where I grew up. Mum was young and really well. She got off the bus without my knowing and I told the bus driver I needed to get off to find Mum. When I got off I saw Mum sitting in the corner of the bus shelter with my favourite dress on. She looked so lovely and natural. I said to her: “Oh Mum!” Then I woke up and got very distressed. I cried and cried. Would you please tell me why I found her? BLANCHE, VIA EMAIL.

AYour dream is consistent with what is experienced during a visitation from someone who has passed over. When loved ones appear to us in this way, they usually present as the best possible version of their earthly selves. Your journey together back to your childhood home is a way of showing that she is still beside you every step of the way, so take comfort in this.

QI suffer from a recurring nightmare where a number of lions are attacking and killing my family. When I wake up, I often can’t get back to sleep because I’m so scared. I sometimes have images of the dream in my mind when I’m awake. Can you tell me what this might mean?

HELENA, VIA EMAIL.

AThis dream relates to the inner fear that is sometimes experienced when we are involved in circumstances beyond our control. Lions in dreams are often seen as a show of strength or power and can represent concerns about being belittled or brought down by a boss or senior figure in your life. Your dream is an indicator that you need to look into the areas of your life where you feel you or your family may be at the mercy of another person’s criticism.
