‘I NEVER TOLD JOHN I LOVED HIM’

THE BEATLE SHARES HIS ONE REGRET ABOUT HIS LATE PAL

-

They were considered one of the greatest writing duos of all-time, having penned the majority of The Beatles smash hits together. But, Paul Mccartney has now admitted he “never got ‘round” to telling his late pal, John Lennon, how much he loved him.

“As 16-year-old, 17-year-old Liverpool kids, you could never say that. It just wasn’t done,” Paul revealed at the launch of his new book, The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present. “So I never did just say, ‘John, I love you, man.’ I never got ’round to it. Now it’s great just to realise how much I love this man.”

The singer added that now, years after the band broke up, he looks back fondly at his time working with John.

“I just remember how great it was to work with him and how great he was. Because you are not messing around here, you are not just singing with Joe Bloggs. You are singing with John Lennon.”

The comments come ahead of the release of the new documentary, The Beatles: Get Back. Directed by Peter Jackson, the three-part series will focus on the making of the band’s penultimate studio album, Let It Be.

It will also feature their final concert as a band, on London’s Savile Row rooftop, in its entirety.

Peter and the team spent close to four years cutting the series from 55 hours of unseen footage that was filmed by American-british music video director, Michael Lindsay-hogg, in 1969, as well as listened to 140 hours of audio from recording sessions.

“It is the story of human frailties and of a divine partnership,” Peter said of the documentary.

“It is a detailed account of the creative process, with the crafting of iconic songs under pressure, set amid the social climate of early 1969. But it’s not nostalgia – it’s raw, honest and human. Over six hours, you’ll get to know The Beatles with an intimacy that you never thought possible.”
