JULIA & RICHARD BACK TOGETHER!

HOLLYWOOD’S BUZZING WITH TALK OF A PRETTY WOMAN REUNION

-

It’s hard to think of two rom-coms more iconic than Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride, thanks in no small part to the magical spark shared between repeat co-stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.

Long before audiences fell in love with Pretty Woman,

those on the set of the 1990 classic – from director Garry Marshall to the caterers – could see that the pair were just meant to be.

Garry, who passed away in 2016, explained it best when he said, “You can fake anything in this business, except chemistry ... Richard and Julia had great chemistry.

“I saw the two of them at the end of the hall just looking at each other, and right there I said, ‘Look at that chemistry. They don’t even know each other.’”

Julia, 54, and Richard, 72, have long laughed off rumours they took their romance off-screen, though he admits they “will always be connected”.

In fact, the pair have remained such good friends since their last team-up in 1999’s Runaway Bride that movie bosses are hard at work convincing them to reunite for a third feature. And their persistence might be about to pay off big time!

As Hollywood’s preoccupation with remakes, reboots and nostalgia rumbles on, insiders tell New Idea that Julia and Richard are weighing up several offers.

“Richard loves the idea of another movie with Julia and has indicated he’s up for it,” tells our Hollywood insider.

Even the actor’s wife, Alejandra Silva – with whom he shares two young children – is on board.

“She thinks Richard and Julia make the perfect onscreen couple and is supportive of a Pretty Woman or Runaway Bride sequel,” says the source.

Julia, on the other hand, isn’t so sure that she wants them to revisit the past.

“She would love to get back together with Richard, but in something original that would complete their rom-com trilogy. It’s all about nailing down the right script. If Julia greenlights the writing, it will be all systems go.”

Indeed, in a recent interview, Julia explained she’s avoided the rom-com genre for 20 years as she was seriously dissatisfied with the quality of scripts being sent her way.

“People sometimes misconstrue the amount of time gone by that I haven’t done a romantic comedy as my not wanting to do one,” she told The New York Times last month.

“If I had read something that I thought was Notting Hill level of writing or My Best Friend’s Wedding level of madcap fun, I would do it. They didn’t exist until this movie that I just did.”

The movie in question is the upcoming Ticket to Paradise, which Julia filmed in Australia with another frequent co-star

and friend, George Clooney.

“First George, now Richard ... it’s like old times!” says the source. “Julia’s about to prove she’s still the box-office queen!”
