Tom & Suri REUNITE AFTER 10 YEARS!
MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME IS AT THE TOP OF TOM’S TO-DO LIST
Between the premiere of his long-anticpated Top Gun sequel, and being a guest of honour at Queen Elizabeth II’S star-studded pre-jubilee celebrations, it’s been a big couple of weeks for Tom Cruise.
But none of these events compare to the seismic shifts going on in his private life.
According to insiders, Tom, 59, is “seriously considering” extricating himself from the Church of Scientology – of which he is its highest-profile member and reported to be its second-in-command – in a bid to reconnect with his youngest daughter, Suri.
“Tom turns 60 in July and, as someone who has always been preoccupied with age, he’s assessing his life and everyone in it,” explains a close source.
Tom continues to have a close relationship with his eldest children, Isabella, 29, and Connor, 27 – whom he shares with ex-wife Nicole Kidman – but he hasn’t had a “meaningful relationship” with 16-year-old Suri since her mum Katie Holmes abruptly left him in 2012.
While Katie, 43, has never spoken on record about why she split from Tom, it’s widely understood she wanted to prevent Suri, who was just six at the time of the divorce, from growing up within her dad’s controversial religion.
“Katie was masterful in her escape from her marriage and Scientology … Tom has to begrudgingly admit that, even if, at the time, he felt it was the perfect environment for his daughter to grow up in,” says a source.
“Church beliefs dictate that those who defect should be cut, and so Tom and Suri have rarely seen each other since.”
In fact, the last time Tom was seen in public with Suri, who lives in New York with her mum, was back in 2013.
“As part of his pre-60th soul-searching, Tom’s realised he’s going to regret it big time if he doesn’t mend fences with Suri,” continues our source. “No box-office takings or audiences with the Queen of England could ever make up for the lost experiences with Suri. He talks to her, but it’s just not the same as a close relationship.”
However, there’s only one way Katie won’t stand between Tom and Suri reuniting for good – if he leaves the church behind.
And it seems he’s heeding his ex’s warning, given he’s not been spotted publicly at a Scientology event in years.
“If Tom does in fact leave Scientology, it would be a major blow to the church given he’s their number-one ticket holder. But it would be a boon to his personal and professional life,” confides a friend. “Not only would it open the door for him to reunite with Suri, but it would also be a huge relief to studio bosses who still love him as a bankable star but always fear his religion puts people off.
“Even at his age he’s still a bona fide action hero, and he’s relevant enough to be invited to hobnob with royals.
“Quitting Scientology could actually be the best thing Tom’s ever done.”
