A NEW ERA BEGINS

INTRODUCING THE NEW PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES

- By Kylie Walters

The news was the one bright spot in a very sombre week, when it was announced that there was a new Prince and Princess of Wales.

During his first speech as the Sovereign, King Charles III took the opportunity to confirm that his son Prince William and his wife Catherine would follow in the footsteps left by he and the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

“Today, I am proud to create [William] Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty,” Charles announced.

“With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given.”

While it must be an anxious time for Kate, 40, the mum of three is said to be taking it in her stride.

“The new Princess of Wales appreciates the history associated with this role, but will understandably want to look to the future as she creates her own path,” a source says.

Royal expert Phil Dampier exclusively tells New Idea that he can think of no-one better than Wills and Kate to help lead the monarchy into its new chapter.

“William and Kate now have a vital role for the monarchy,” Phil says. “They are doing things their way and taking the monarchy forward in the 21st century. They don’t expect people to curtsey or bow and scrape, and just like Princess Diana, they are happy to hand out hugs when required!”

While the promotion came quickly following the Queen’s death, Phil knows that Charles acted with the full blessing of his dear late “Mummy”.

“I’m sure the Queen would be happy that William and Kate are doing so well and would feel the future is safe with them,” he says.
