Some lucky person will undoubtedly be purchasing a bargain here. This fully–restored S-type Jaguar has been the subject of a full nut-and-bolt restoration and is offered for sale at a fraction of the cost. The current owner purchased this Jaguar from the third owner in November 2007 — a matching numbers car, complete even if shabby, and the current owner felt it was worth restoring. The project began in December 2007. The body and chassis were stripped back to bare metal, rust removed and etch primed. Final bodywork and painting included an epoxy Dulux Opalescent Maroon finish — the original colour of this car. The engine was extensively rebuilt and has only travelled 15,990 miles (25,733km) since overhaul. A new water pump was also installed, the radiator was recored and new radiator hoses were fitted. All heater pipes were replaced in copper and every hose replaced, as was the thermostat. The engine now runs at an even 70˚C. The carburettors were also dismantled and overhauled, and exhaust manifolds were sandblasted and painted in a heat resistant highgloss black and a new stainless steel exhaust system from Barratts, UK, was installed. The clutch was rebuilt and the gearbox appeared in good order on inspection so was not overhauled. A complete overhaul of the brakes was undertaken including master cylinder and original brake vacuum servo, brake calipers were re-zinced, pistons sleeved in stainless steel and assembled with new brake pads and seals, and new copper brakes lines were installed. All major suspension components were stripped and powder coated and reinstalled. All bolts and fasteners were re-zinced or replaced, new splined hubs were installed to replace the original steel wheel hubs, along with new bushings, bearings, and seals throughout. The diff was checked, reassembled and repainted and wire wheels were fitted and new chrome spinners added. A new wiring loom was also installed and most electrical items rebuilt. Almost all exterior chrome was rechromed including the bumpers, overriders, front surround and grille, rear plinth and door handles, as well as most of the chrome body strips. New seals were used in the body, engine bay, doors, boot, scuttle and quarter lights.
