New Zealand Classic Car

Editors’ pick N MACHSR7

2009

- As featured in Nzclassic Car, Issue No. 247

ew Zealanders have always embraced kit-car builds designed for construction by the home mechanic, with family and mates often wandering over to lend a hand with any such project. Many local companies provided not only kits but also fully factory-built custom models of Lotus’ evergreen Super Seven.

Custom-built in Christchurch by Mark and Robert at Mcgregor Motorsport, this unique eye-catching sports car — aptly named by its owner the ‘MACHSR7’ — has been a true touring car. The day after its unveiling, its new owner, Bruce, drove it from Christchurch to Auckland. Bruce lives in Japan, but, at every opportunity, he returns to New Zealand to simply drive and enjoy the true spirit of open-cockpit touring.

So, what makes this stunning orange replica different? Its Mazda 1800cc twin-cam engine, coupled to an MX-5 rifle-bolt five-speed gearbox, allows for easy cruising down to the local café or restaurant without sacrificing performance on open country roads.

The car features independent and fully adjustable suspension, alloy wheels firmly shod with Toyo R88 tyres, custom leather seats, a carbon-fibre dashboard, and a fully waterproof top, which Bruce says is very useful when driving in and around Auckland!

Fully garaged and meticulously maintained, the MACHSR7 comes with a full build history including all invoices, and a daily logbook of all drives (including kilometres travelled and petrol usage). Even more extensive information can be viewed at Bruce’s blog — kitcarnz.com.

The MACHSR7 is garaged in Auckland. Test drives are available for serious purchasers and, if out of town, the successful buyer can have all travel costs covered as well as free delivery. This is your chance to become an owner of part of New Zealand’s hand-built custom-car history.

The asking price is $40K. This unique vehicle was also featured in the July 2011 edition of NZ Classic Car. For further enquiries and test drives, contact Mark by phone on 021 649 749 or via email at kitcarnz@gmail.com.
