February 14: 43rd Ellerslie Intermarque Concours d’elegance and Classic Car Show Our love affair with cars will be the focus of the country’s oldest and largest classic car show at Ellerslie on February 14 — which also happens to be St Valentine’s Day. The Ellerslie show involves more than 75 car clubs and attracts 700– 800 classic exhibitors as well as top prestige and performance new-car dealerships and companies involved in restoration industries. The display theme for the 43rd New Zealand Classic Car Magazine Ellerslie Intermarque Concours and Classic Car show is ‘Love Story’ — though how that will be interpreted by clubs is, at this stage, anyone’s guess. For many, the attraction to this event is the Concours d’elegance, in which New Zealand’s best restorations — and often the country’s most valuable cars — vie for top honours, along with teams entered by clubs, the winners hosting the next event. There will also be The Paddock, a display of classics whose owners are not affiliated with any club, and the Survivors Class, a competition for unrestored vehicles with original bodywork, paint, and upholstery. For more information, visit concours.org.nz. February 14: British Car Day Come and enjoy the 30th anniversary of the British Car Day at Trentham Memorial Park, Upper Hutt, from 10am to 2pm. The British Car Club welcomes one and all to a nostalgic day out to admire British vehicles from vintage to new, ranging from buses to trucks to stationary engines. Clubs can compete for the club trophy, but you don’t need to be a member of a club to participate and compete for the People’s Choice trophy. Good food and coffee will be available, plus a variety of stalls. The cost will be $5 per display vehicle or a gold-coin donation to spectate. Profits will be donated to the Wellington Free Ambulance. Entry will be via the Barton Road entrance. Enquiries to Lyn or Keith Shackleton on 04 973 290 or email theshacks@paradise.net.nz. February 19–21: Evolution Motorsport Classic Speedfest This annual event, held at Teretonga Park — Invercargill’s home of motor racing — will feature on-track action from classic saloons, to sports and racing cars, historic touring cars, clubmans’ saloons, Mainland Muscle Cars and Pre ’65 saloons. Of course, Americarna 2016 will culminate in its traditional parade through the New Plymouth CBD. For more details, visit americarna.com. Come to beautiful sunny Hastings and enjoy a fine display of classic vehicles in park-like surroundings. All traditional and modern classic vehicles welcome, including British, European, Australian, Japanese, American, military vehicles, and classic motorbikes. Food and coffee will be available at the venue, as well as entertainment for the kids. Spot prizes galore to be won all day, with category prize-giving at 2.30pm. Price: $5 entry for display vehicles, public entry by gold coin, benefiting the Brain Injury Association (HB) Inc. March 13: Annual Vehicle Display This is the fifth year of this Classic Motoring Marlborough event, with 320 vehicles last year. Get your truck, car or boat out to display to the public to increase numbers further for 2016 and organize your club and make an outing of it, $5 entry fee, with all proceeds benefiting Hospice Marlborough. Food and drink will be available on site. Further information is available from Patrick Pascoe, phone 027 442 1786 or email p.pascoe@xtra.co.nz. March 20: Twin Rivers Motoring Extravaganza Organized by the Rotary Club of Avonhead, this event will be held at the A&P Showgrounds, Curletts Road, Christchurch. This event is now a popular Christchurch motoring extravaganza, providing all car clubs and owners the opportunity to display their vehicles on the grass fields of the showgrounds. All makes, models, types, styles, and ages are welcome, with an entry fee of $15 — if it has wheels, bring it. After much soul-searching, it has been decided that a parade will again be incorporated as an optional feature; one was not held last year but popular demand has seen it reinstated in the programme. Designated areas can be set aside for car clubs and special groups. Make this a family day at a very attractive and spacious venue. A variety of entertainment will be provided, as well as food and refreshment stalls. Prizes for Best British, Best American, Best Australian, Best European, and Best Japanese cars.
