“These initiatives are a return to the company’s traditions as, from its inception, Simoniz has developed a reputation for quality and innovation”.

Over a hundred years ago, at a time when automobiles were a rarity, George Simons along with railroad builder Elmer Rich, created a product range designed to offer a protective and attractive shine to car exteriors.

Originally offered under the Simons Manufacturing Company brand for ease of purpose, particularly in advertising situations, the name was shortened to Simoniz.

The fact the word has found its way into the wider world of the English language shows the power of its heritage and reputation.

As a verb in the English dictionary! Si-mon-ize – means to shine or polish to a high sheen as in ‘to simonize a vehicle’.

John Wallace says that many of the significant developments in the category came about through Simoniz.

One of the earliest breakthroughs was discovering how the resin of a Brazilian tree, Copernica Cerifera (more commonly known as the Carnauba tree or ‘Tree of Life’) could be used to produce the perfect car care product. Simoniz developers discovered that pure Carnauba wax has the highest melting point of all natural waxes and is widely accepted as the hardest commercial wax known to man.

They also deduced that one of its most interesting properties is that it swells and closes its pores when exposed to water. Carnauba wax also has the ability to retain oil and has excellent gloss properties.

John Wallace says that sort of pursuit of product excellence is why the Simoniz brand was so enduring.

“In the end it is all about performance and protection—indicators such as the end shine and beading of water demonstrate that the product is working. There is no question that Simoniz will return to being the industry benchmark for long-lasting protection and brilliant shine. It will once again be one of the world’s most trusted names in car care, cleaning, waxing and polishing.”
