Anewly launched car-finding website is promising to help individuals find their perfect car, with all the consumer protection offered by trusted dealers. Motorcentral, a Christchurch-based software company, has launched Need A Car (needacar. co.nz), which project lead, Shane Breckon, believes is “the simplest and easiest way to find and buy vehicles online.

“We are confident this is the easiest and most comprehensive car search in the market, and we are really looking forward to seeing how the public interact with it,” he adds.

Customers who know what they want are able to search for cars throughout New Zealand using a choice of more than 50 variables, such as colour, safety features, and fuel economy. For those who aren’t so sure, Need A Car has a ‘ lifestyle’ section, which matches a car to a person based on their lifestyle.

Breckon adds, “This is a great way for people who aren’t quite sure what car might best fit their needs, to get introduced to cars they may not have known existed.”

Need A Car appears to be something of a one-stop-shop, allowing customers to apply for finance, get accurate quotes on products such as delivery and insurance, and be alerted when the price of a vehicle drops, or when a deal is made available.

Setting it apart from other listing websites, Need A Car only sells vehicles from trusted dealers, offering what Breckon says is “greater protection for consumers.”

“The public may not be aware just how many regulations a dealer must comply with to sell vehicles in New Zealand. Buying a car is, for some people, their largest acquisition, so we felt it was important to create an environment where people knew that each and every vehicle they were viewing offered the protection a dealer offers.”

Also ensuring that customers feel confident in their choice is the feedback system, with feedback from more than 7000 recent car buyers via Motorcentral’s Buyerscore system, including comments on the customer service being received from dealers.

“Overall, dealers appear to be doing a great job servicing the New Zealand public,” Breckon says. “Our surveys show 94 per cent of respondents would be happy to recommend the dealership they purchased from to others, which we think is excellent.”

Possibly the next homegrown website to become a household name, Need A Car currently has 22,000 vehicles for sale from more than 400 dealers.
