Anewly launched car-find­ing web­site is promis­ing to help in­di­vid­u­als find their per­fect car, with all the con­sumer pro­tec­tion of­fered by trusted deal­ers. Mo­tor­central, a Christchurch-based soft­ware com­pany, has launched Need A Car (needacar., which project lead, Shane Breckon, be­lieves is “the sim­plest and eas­i­est way to find and buy ve­hi­cles on­line.

“We are con­fi­dent this is the eas­i­est and most com­pre­hen­sive car search in the mar­ket, and we are re­ally look­ing for­ward to see­ing how the pub­lic in­ter­act with it,” he adds.

Cus­tomers who know what they want are able to search for cars through­out New Zealand us­ing a choice of more than 50 vari­ables, such as colour, safety fea­tures, and fuel econ­omy. For those who aren’t so sure, Need A Car has a ‘ life­style’ sec­tion, which matches a car to a per­son based on their life­style.

Breckon adds, “This is a great way for peo­ple who aren’t quite sure what car might best fit their needs, to get in­tro­duced to cars they may not have known ex­isted.”

Need A Car ap­pears to be some­thing of a one-stop-shop, al­low­ing cus­tomers to ap­ply for fi­nance, get ac­cu­rate quotes on prod­ucts such as de­liv­ery and in­sur­ance, and be alerted when the price of a ve­hi­cle drops, or when a deal is made avail­able.

Set­ting it apart from other list­ing web­sites, Need A Car only sells ve­hi­cles from trusted deal­ers, of­fer­ing what Breckon says is “greater pro­tec­tion for con­sumers.”

“The pub­lic may not be aware just how many reg­u­la­tions a dealer must com­ply with to sell ve­hi­cles in New Zealand. Buy­ing a car is, for some peo­ple, their largest ac­qui­si­tion, so we felt it was im­por­tant to cre­ate an en­vi­ron­ment where peo­ple knew that each and ev­ery ve­hi­cle they were view­ing of­fered the pro­tec­tion a dealer of­fers.”

Also en­sur­ing that cus­tomers feel con­fi­dent in their choice is the feed­back sys­tem, with feed­back from more than 7000 re­cent car buy­ers via Mo­tor­central’s Buy­er­score sys­tem, in­clud­ing com­ments on the cus­tomer ser­vice be­ing re­ceived from deal­ers.

“Over­all, deal­ers ap­pear to be do­ing a great job ser­vic­ing the New Zealand pub­lic,” Breckon says. “Our sur­veys show 94 per cent of re­spon­dents would be happy to rec­om­mend the deal­er­ship they pur­chased from to oth­ers, which we think is ex­cel­lent.”

Pos­si­bly the next home­grown web­site to be­come a house­hold name, Need A Car cur­rently has 22,000 ve­hi­cles for sale from more than 400 deal­ers.
