Skope Classic 2018 — Mike Pero Motorsport Park at Ruapuna

-

Muscle Car Mania is the theme for next year’s Skope Classic Meeting promoted by the Canterbury Car Club, chosen to highlight the Central Muscle Cars, Mainland Muscle Cars, and the single-seater muscle of the Formula 5000s. The event will run at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park at Ruapuna on February 2– 4. The event has been running for 27 years, and this year’s Muscle Car Mania theme follows previous ones, such as Pre 65 North/south Challenge, New Zealand Specials, GM/ Ford, Historic Touring Cars, and 2016’s Formula Junior Anniversary Tour. A spectator survey at the last Australian Supercar meeting in Hamilton resulted in the Central Muscle Cars outranking all other classes by four to one on Saturday, and two to one on Sunday, such is the popularity of these cars. In a world where their very existence comes increasingly under threat, the muscle car’s popularity on the track has taken another leap forward. In single-seater form, the everpopular Formula 5000s continue to draw large crowds in its revival form, supercar racing in Australia reigns supreme over all other classes, and in New Zealand the Central Muscle Cars and now the Mainland Muscle Car register are acts that never have to ask to be invited to a race meeting. The meeting will also include other crowd favourites, such as Historic Touring cars, Formula Libre and the Vintage Car Club.
