Second time around

- Words and photos: Bruce Wilson

The winds of change can have a strong twist, and, at Mcgregor Motorsport in Christchurch, the new owners, Scott and Delwyn, are certainly smiling at the moment.

Having purchased the business last year, they secured their first build: Bruce Wilson, our Kiwi in Japan, and his second custom build. As Bruce said the last time we talked about it, the second time around is easier, and his smile revealed why — first, he was about to retire, and, second, Mcgregor Motorsport was to have new owners. He was not sure which affected him the most: having free time and no salary, or being the first build for the new owners.

The new owners of Mcgregor Motorsport have exceeded expectations. Scott and Delwyn have not only welcomed Bruce as their first client but also into the family caravan behind the garage. Bruce has, however, slowed the build down by asking to be more involved, making frequent trips from Japan to Christchurch for that purpose. He is really happy to have more hands- on time, but Scott wants the car out on the road ASAP … the winds of change!

With another new build beginning for an Auckland client, Mcgregor Motorsport moved from the garage into a larger workshop in April. Bruce was quick to book his next visit in April and make that the let’s-start-the- engine moment.

Bruce’s new Mcgregor boasts a totally new chassis design as well as body panels and a roomier seating configuration. The challenge was to fit the Honda K24A motor, which looks like it certainly belongs there, and that key eye for detail so evident in Bruce’s old ‘Orange’ Mcgregor is being extended even more. He is reluctant to confirm the final colour scheme, but we feel something special is being created that will again turn heads.
