FIND OUT WHAT’S BITING AND WHERE

Fishing takes preparation, a lot of patience and the correct equipment

-

Noosa is regarded as one of the top spots to go fishing in Southeast Queensland with its easy access to local parks adjacent to waterways.

I thought we could have a look at different areas and ideas that will make it easy to take the family fishing with simplicity and minimal fuss.

The best tip one can give is preparation, a lot of patience and the correct equipment. When it comes to fishing gear, the most complicated or latest is not necessarily the best. Because the parents end up carrying the gear, I would suggest to keep your equipment to a minimal amount so the kids can learn to carry it for themselves.

Small spin combos in the five to seven-foot range with a little tackle box containing size 4 to 6 hooks, small sinkers and swivels. If you require any assistance with keeping it light, call in and see the guys at Davo’s Tackle World Noosa where we will be only too happy to help. Make sure you have the correct clothing, shirts or swimsuits as they can get wet and dirty – and hats that will not blow away in the wind.

There is now a range of kid-sized fishing shirts and hats available, these shirts are SPF-rated and are perfect for these occasions.

If you’re fishing over the lunch break, maybe pack a fun picnic lunch for all to enjoy. If you want to focus on the kids, consider leaving your gear at home so you can devote all your efforts to the kids catching dinner. This will give you plenty of time to teach the kids the basics of fishing such as casting, learning how to tie knots and even baiting their own hooks.

Good areas in the Noosa include the dog beach to the sandbags which can be accessed from Hastings St.

The tide can be a little strong in the middle of the run so try to stick to the change of tide. Around the corner in Woods Bay is where you can hide from the current and wind as it promotes itself as a semi-sheltered area.

Munna Point is a sandy area in front of the caravan park which is easily accessed by foot and great for the family.

Noosa Sound contains a wide range of different depths and snaggy areas. It normally fishes better at low-light periods when it quietens down. Tewantin Channel is from Hilton Tce to the boat ramp and consists of sandy gravel bottom and works well if you like to throw lures. Lake Weyba is mainly mangrove-lined banks and covered sand flats and holds a good variety of fish.

Teewah Beach, this pristine stretch of beach is perfect for those families with a four-wheel-drive and holds a wide variety of fish. For any further info, call in and see the local guys at Davo’s Tackle World Noosa for your bait, tackle and advice before heading out. We are passionate about our coastline so leave nothing but footprints and enjoy all that the coast has to offer.
