Smokebox first is best

-

On most heritage railway lines, only around half of the locomotives will be facing the right way – with the smokebox (the chimney) at the front as they pass you. Engines which pass in reverse, with the tender first and then the smokebox, do not make such good shots, but are still useful for practising your technique and seeing how different places along the track work as backgrounds for future train shots.
