Is Gerry on track with his set­tings?

As they stood in the sid­ing wait­ing for the next timetabled train to come up the Sev­ern Val­ley track, Phil gave Gerry some sim­ple tips for im­prov­ing his shoot­ing suc­cess rate:

500 not out!

Phil says… To get sharp shots of steam trains, you need to use a shut­ter speed of 1/500 sec or faster. I use Man­ual ex­po­sure mode as my de­fault, as you can set up the set­tings be­fore the train comes into sight and not worry about the white ex­haust to black en­gine fool­ing the me­ter.
