Phil says… When you are work­ing line­side, your own safety and that of oth­ers needs to be a pri­mary con­cern. Each rail­way will have its own set of rules which you will be ex­pected to obey to the let­ter, once you have re­ceived your line­side per­mit (see page 13). One of the first and most im­por­tant rules is that you must al­ways wear an or­ange hi-vis jacket when­ever you are near the track, so that en­gine driv­ers can see you clearly in the dis­tance.
