Phil says… I don’t be­lieve in us­ing a tri­pod for my rail­way pic­tures as the fast shut­ter speeds that I use do not war­rant one. But a monopod does come in very handy for give you a bit more sta­bil­ity, and en­sur­ing that the shot re­mains ac­cu­rately framed as you shoot off a high-speed con­tin­u­ous se­quence of RAW files while the next train passes you by. I use a four-sec­tion Giot­tos MML 3270B, which you can buy for around £36/$66
