Phil says… I don’t believe in using a tripod for my railway pictures as the fast shutter speeds that I use do not warrant one. But a monopod does come in very handy for give you a bit more stability, and ensuring that the shot remains accurately framed as you shoot off a high-speed continuous sequence of RAW files while the next train passes you by. I use a four-section Giottos MML 3270B, which you can buy for around £36/$66
