OUR APPRENTICE says…

I could hardly believe how much my pictures improved in just a day with an expert – after all my decades of watching and recording steam trains. This shot of No. 4936 Kinlet Hall is just the sort of classic railway shot that you see in the centrefold of railway magazines, but this time I have pressed the trigger! Perhaps the most important thing I learned on the day is that you need to spend a lot of time preparing to get the perfect shot. Phil knew the SVR and the surrounding area so well, and knew exactly where the best locations would be for the prevailing conditions. You can’t just wing it – local knowledge is essential for this type of photography.
