Stunning still lifes
Martina Roberts set up this shot on her kitchen table
You don’t need expensive studio flashes, backgrounds and reflectors, or lots of props, to create beautiful still life images. “This picture was taken on a rainy October afternoon. I had collected branches the day before to make a little autumm bouquet, and these were left behind,” Martina says. The contrast in the lighting, the simple shapes of the twigs and vase and the reflection in the table top are what make this picture succeed – and these are the things that black-and-white is so good at bringing out.
