You don’t need ex­pen­sive stu­dio flashes, back­grounds and re­flec­tors, or lots of props, to cre­ate beau­ti­ful still life im­ages. “This pic­ture was taken on a rainy Oc­to­ber af­ter­noon. I had col­lected branches the day be­fore to make a lit­tle au­tumm bou­quet, and these were left be­hind,” Martina says. The con­trast in the light­ing, the sim­ple shapes of the twigs and vase and the re­flec­tion in the ta­ble top are what make this pic­ture suc­ceed – and these are the things that black-and-white is so good at bring­ing out.
