45 Without a lot of experience taking monochrome photographs, it’s hard to pre-visualise which shots are going to work best in black-and-white. Use the Monochrome Picture Control (see page 66) so you can see if you’ll be successful straight away; use a NEF + JPEG image quality setting so you retain full editing control over the image in case you want to tweak it later in post-production.
