Trails of light
The long exposures needed at night might seem like an inconvenience, but you can use them to your advantage. In the picture on the left, the only illumination was the sparkler, and this meant we needed a long exposure of 15 seconds – but this gave us time to move the sparkler and create this luminous outline. It would be impossible to do this in any of the camera’s auto modes because its light meter would not be able to produce a sensible meter reading and exposure time.
