My D5100 won’t fire and dis­plays ‘Er­ror: Press shut­ter but­ton’. Help!

Chris says… You prob­a­bly need to send your cam­era to an au­tho­rised re­pair cen­tre. The mes­sage gen­er­ally in­di­cates the shut­ter mech­a­nism is stuck. How­ever, it is worth hav­ing a look for so­lu­tions on­line. We found this at Nikonites.com:

“I just had a sim­i­lar prob­lem on my D5100… The lower-right cor­ner of the mir­ror was bind­ing with the stop. We were able to GEN­TLY pry the cor­ner of the mir­ror away from the stop (from the right) and now it is func­tion­ing flaw­lessly.”

It sounds a risky DIY re­pair, but the so­lu­tion had worked for three dif­fer­ent people with the prob­lem.
