Pro’s Killer Kit #02 Nikon 300mm f/4D IF-ED
Lloyd says… I bought Nikon’s cheaper D-type 300mm f/4 lens because I couldn’t afford the f/2.8G version – it’s four times the price! This one is lighter and easier to handle, and although it’s a D-type lens, it still has Nikon’s Silent Wave autofocus motors. Like Nikon’s other professional prime telephotos, it’s designed to produce sharp images even when it’s wide open, so this gives it a big advantage over consumer lenses like Dave’s 55-300mm zoom, which only offers an aperture of f/5.6 at full zoom, and really needs to be stopped down to f/8 to deliver its best results.
