Light works

If your subject doesn’t have a wide range of tones, you can still take a picture that converts well to black-andwhite if you light it carefully. Aim for good highlights (but avoid blowing out areas of the image entirely) and decent shadows. When you convert to monochrome, they will give shape and texture to your image.
