N Photo 100% NIKON 100% INDEPENDENT

- Rod Lawton, Acting Editor rod.lawton@futurenet.com

I had a great day out this month at RAF Fairford and the Royal International Air Tattoo. I was there with reader Dave Barker and aviation pro Lloyd Horgan for this month’s Apprentice feature, and I think I probably learned as much as our reader did!

Lloyd’s knowledge of aircraft and Nikon cameras was amazing, but when we first approached him he was worried his camera gear wasn’t ‘professional’ enough. Lloyd uses a Nikon D7100 for his aerial photography and an older D300s for regular motorsport assignments and he pointed out that most of the professional photographers we feature in Apprentice use full-frame Nikons.

But Lloyd’s photographic portfolio speaks for itself (see page 13) and he quickly demonstrated that it’s the skill of the photographer that really matters – you don’t have to use a costly camera to get pro-quality pictures!

I was also delighted that best-selling author and photographer Michael Freeman agreed to be our interview subject this month on page 76. But that’s not the only exciting news. Starting next month, Michael will be bringing all his knowledge and experience to N-Photo on a regular basis as he takes over Nikon Know-how, the first part of our Nikopedia section. This is a real coup for N-Photo and we look forward to a great blend of insights, explanations and instructions for all Nikon users.
