The his­togram is a graph that gives you a vis­ual guide to how much in­for­ma­tion there is in a photo’s shad­ows (on the left of the graph), high­lights (on the right) and mid-tones (in the mid­dle). You can ac­cess it dur­ing play­back by press­ing up or down on the multi-se­lec­tor. If the his­togram is bunched up to­wards the left-hand side, then the pic­ture will be very dark, whereas if it’s bun­dled to­wards the right then the pic­ture may be too bright.
