OUR PRO’S verdict
John’s shot of the day is perfect. I don’t think I could have shot it better myself. The black background inside the stable produces a perfect lighting contrast, and it’s enough of a visual frame on its own not to need the wooden framework of the stable door – you could crop this shot either way, in fact. The main thing is to capture the special interaction between the horse and the rider, and John has done that perfectly. It means paying attention to the details, understanding horse psychology, and taking plenty of shots – and John has cracked it with this one.
