Competition winners!

For this month’s photo competition we encouraged you to think big, setting ‘Panoramic’ as the theme. As you’d expect, sweeping landscapes formed the bulk of the submissions, though other subjects featured too.

Shooting a successful panorama is a tricky business. On top of the technical difficulties of a shooting a set of images that will stitch together well, you’ve got to be able to find a location where everything from the foreground to the background adds something to the shot. The reflection of the mountains in the lake in Wilfried Klein’s shot brings detail almost to the feet of the photographer, while the arching clouds provide texture in the sky. Ally Byrom took a different approach, and the flat, neutral water and sky in her photograph means your focus is entirely on the dark and detailed fishing boats.
