1 Stay com­posed As with the clas­sic im­age of Gateshead (page 30), the key here was to find a com­po­si­tion that min­imised dead space in the river and sky – the dif­fer­ence be­ing we were shoot­ing from above the bridge rather than be­low. We also took care to in­clude St Paul’s cathe­dral on the left and South­wark and Dock­lands on the right. 2 Cap­ture mo­tion Again we set an aper­ture of f/13 at ISO100, which this time gave us a shut­ter speed of 10 seconds – plenty long enough to blur the light trails of the pass­ing traf­fic and the fast­mov­ing river. This time, though, we only needed a third of a stop of neg­a­tive ex­po­sure com­pen­sa­tion for a cor­rect ex­po­sure.
