Landmarks stand out from their surroundings, giving people something to navigate by – but with the most famous ones, there’s a danger that we’ve seen it all before. This month’s photo competition theme of ‘Landmarks’ had its dangers, therefore. Both Helena Mim and Michael Walsh submitted photos taken at the coast, where prominent buildings, parts of the scenery and other objects really do stand out, and took advantage of mist and blur to make the most of their chosen landmarks. The judges really liked the use of colour in Helena Mim’s image, with the warm rust tones of the ship contrasting with the purplish sky.

If you’d like to see what the judges and your fellow N-Photo readers have to say about your own images (and have a shot at winning a fantastic Manfrotto 3N1-25 PL Pro Lite Camera bag worth £200, pictured right), why not enter our latest competition online at www.photocrowd.com? This month the subject is ‘Emptiness’: empty spaces, empty cups – if it’s empty or conveys a sense of emptiness it counts. And as always, the more creative the interpretation of the theme the better.
