Play with shadows
Strong shadows make great subjects, says Damien. One option is to get up high early or late in the day, and shoot down on any shadows; another option is to shoot into the light, with the shadows stretching towards you. In either case, you can either include some context, to give your images a sense of place (left) or strip it out to create a graphic, abstract feel that’s more about light and shade, and the patterns they can create (below).
