“The key with a shot like this is to ex­per­i­ment with your po­si­tion­ing and com­po­si­tion, and with the re­la­tion­ship be­tween the fore­ground, mid­dle-ground and back­ground el­e­ments,” ex­plains Nigel. “Some­times, mov­ing your po­si­tion slightly, or fram­ing a shot a few feet to the left or right, or up or down, can make all the dif­fer­ence, so it’s worth spend­ing some time get­ting this right. Ideally you want to have some sep­a­ra­tion be­tween the var­i­ous el­e­ments in the scene, but not so much that there’s lots of dead space.”
