Don McCullin CBE is a Bri­tish pho­tog­ra­pher fa­mous for his im­ages of con­flict and dis­as­ters

■ Born in 1938, McCullin had a tough Lon­don child­hood, and es­tab­lished him­self as a pho­tog­ra­pher with his im­ages of a lo­cal gang. He has worked for many pub­li­ca­tions, but is best known for his work for The Ob­server and Sun­day Times.

■ McCullin has cov­ered con­flicts in Cyprus, the Congo, Viet­nam, Bangladesh and Beirut, as well as the ef­fects of AIDS and famine in the de­vel­op­ing world.

■ McCullin’s books in­clude Don McCullinin Africa and Shaped By War. A BAFTA-nom­i­nated doc­u­men­tary film about his life and ca­reer, en­ti­tled McCullin, was re­leased in 2012.
