“When you’re taking someone’s portrait in bright sunshine, see if you can encourage them to move into shade for a softer, more even quality of light,” says John. “Use a shallow depth of field to blur the background and to keep a viewer’s attention on their face, too,” he adds. Luis took this portrait with his old 50mm f/1.4, using an aperture of f/1.6 and making sure he nailed the focus on the eyes.
