Get your pri­or­i­ties straight

Use aper­ture-pri­or­ity mode (A). Although you are aim­ing to see dif­fer­ences be­tween the im­ages, you also want clean, even ex­po­sures through­out. This mode will al­low you to set a fixed aper­ture and ISO, then bal­ance the ex­po­sure with a vari­able shut­ter speed. We used f/22 and ISO100.

Shoot at in­ter­vals

Go to Shoot­ing Menu> In­ter­val timer shoot­ing, then set a shoot­ing du­ra­tion us­ing the arrow keys. Make it long enough to cap­ture the en­tire sunrise/set. Next, set an in­ter­val be­tween shots of around two min­utes. It is bet­ter to take more than you need so you have a choice later.
