Why won’t my third-party battery work on my Nikon D5300?

Matt says… Somewhere in your camera’s instructions, Robert, there will be a passage advising against using third-party batteries, as Nikon will not have tested them and therefore cannot approve the battery for use with the camera. The incompatibility can occasionally be remedied with a firmware update, but often the power source is unusable. It may be harsh on those of us looking for a cheaper option, but as there’s potential for damage to the camera and yourself if the battery is faulty, the policy is somewhat understandable.
