Change lenses

If you’re get­ting stuck in a rut, change your lenses to al­ter your per­spec­tive (see page 130 for Joe McNally’s take on this). Caro­line switched from her 24-70mm f/2.8 to a 105mm f/2.8 macro for the shot above. The longer fo­cal length com­pressed the per­spec­tive and gave her a shal­lower depth of field. When chang­ing lenses, es­pe­cially in a floury en­vi­ron­ment like this, air-dust the op­ti­cal el­e­ments, as there’s noth­ing worse than get­ting home and find­ing you have hun­dreds of speckly im­ages to process.
