Crop mode

Nikon’s FX camera bodies have a ‘crop mode’ available, in which only the central region of the image sensor is used, equating to the size of a DX format sensor.

Focal plane

This is the point at which light passing through a lens is focused, corresponding with the active surface of the image sensor.
