Working the subject
Once you have your chosen shot in the bag, it’s time to experiment with different types of composition. Push in close and fill the frame with your subject. If you’re shooting something like the acorns here, be aware of your nut and leaf – the shot needs to be clear to show your subject properly. Take it too far away and the photo will lack a clear subject and may have too many distracting elements in the background; get too close and your subject may not be recognisable, as your lens may struggle to focus, or you may crop out essential familiar elements. Unless you’re going for a very abstract image, it’s generally best to avoid any dramatic cropping.
