Heather says... Grey skies can be great for shoot­ing macro im­ages of na­ture – they pro­vide soft light, mak­ing sub­jects look like they’re inside a gi­ant soft box. It’s much eas­ier than shoot­ing in di­rect over­head sun­light. How­ever, when shoot­ing in forests, it’ll be con­sid­er­ably darker, so be aware of how slow your shut­ter speed is get­ting.
