HOT SHOT #2

-

Our Apprentice says… Heather suggested shooting this striking fern against a plain dark background, to make the most of its graphic shape, and bring out its autumnal colours. By setting an aperture of f/11 and shooting the fern so that all of its leaves were on the same plane, I was able to get most of it sharp from front to back. It wasn’t easy, though, because it was being blown around in the wind, and at 1/100 sec my shutter speed wasn’t quite fast enough to freeze the movement. I just had to wait for the wind to drop.
