Our Apprentice says…
I spotted my Shot of the Day myself, while we were looking for more autumnal subjects to shoot. This fungus was hidden beside a moss-covered tree and the colours just shouted out to me. I used many of the techniques that Heather had taught me to get this shot. First, I got down low to throw the background out of focus and keep the fungus sharp. I then used Heather’s zebra reflector to light up the underside of the fungus. I also went vertical, to complement the vertical nature of the fungus and the tree, and I shot on a tripod to eliminate camera shake. I especially like the detail in the stalk, and the way the focus falls off in the tree to the right of the frame.
