Day one, first card from the pack, and al­ready we were play­ing fast and loose with the tasks we’d set our­selves! While the chal­lenge was to shoot a crea­ture close-up, we came across this jew­elled spi­der’s web when scour­ing a lake for swans or ducks. It was a damp, misty morn­ing and the soft light and lack of wind cre­ated the per­fect con­di­tions for pho­tograph­ing its del­i­cate de­tails. Chris framed the web against a dark area of the lake, di­alling down the ex­po­sure a lit­tle to en­sure the back­drop re­mained dark in the photo. The re­sult­ing im­age might not fol­low the chal­lenge to the let­ter, but we think it does in spirit…
