When mak­ing these longer ex­po­sure pans, keep your aper­ture stopped down. Tony used f/8 to in­crease his depth of field and en­hance the sharp­ness of the rider as he passed by. At wider aper­tures (such as f/2.8) the depth of field is sim­ply too small, so you risk miss­ing the fo­cus al­to­gether.
