This is a great ex­am­ple of good tim­ing, fore­thought, and the abil­ity to recog­nise shapes and pat­terns in your scene. The re­sult of a harsh mid­day sun, the shad­ows of the straight handrail poles are bent into per­fect zigzag lines that look like they’ve been painted on the steps below. The ad­di­tion of a passer-by gives this shot con­text, as with­out him it could be dif­fi­cult to tell that this shot is of a handrail on steps out­side. The di­rec­tion that he’s walk­ing in makes our eyes move along the handrail and up to­wards the top of the frame. Nikon D5300, 50mm f/1.8, 1/1600 sec, f/4, ISO100
