Expert insight Meter for the band

Kevin says… A lot of people say spot metering is the way to go, to get in on the face and meter for that, but I stick to matrix metering. When I’m in Manual mode I have full control over exposure, so I don’t even need to look at the light meter. In fact, the bands are usually backlit and the intensity of light is so variable that it’s better to let bright lights burn out and to retain detail in the band.
