What is the hardest part of your job?

People don’t realise how lonely this job is. It sounds romantic to travel the world, and it is. I love what I do, but I have to be incredibly self-reliant. I am often alone in tough places, and so being comfortable with yourself is really important. And there are dangerous moments. You become prey to unsavoury characters. They see you out there alone, so it’s really important to be smart, and not get yourself into situations where there’s no way to get out.

You do have to put yourself in tough situations sometimes, but I’ve become much better at trusting my sixth sense and knowing when it’s time to leave.
