Provide direction
Kate says… Direction is key to the way I work. A lot of wedding photographers will say they prefer to shoot reportage images, but that’s sometimes just because they don’t want to have to talk to people! At most weddings, the reality is that you have to shoot some ‘posed’ images. Once you start posing the bride and groom you inevitably have to direct them, and provide guidance and reassurance if you want your images to look natural. To this end, it’s also important to tell them when you’re just taking test shots, and when you’re actually shooting; you don’t want them putting all their energy into giving you their best, most natural-looking pose when you’re just checking the exposure!
