18 ISO expanded
The D7500 has an impressive maximum ISO of 51,200, the same as the pro-spec D500 and 1EV more than the cheaper D7200. But it also offers no fewer than five ‘expanded’ settings to take it up to a maximum of ISO1,640,000. It remains to be seen what the quality is like at this level, but we usually find that super-high ISOs have a knock-on effect on image quality further down the ISO range. Normally the only sure way to get less noise is with bigger sensors and photosites, but Nikon’s EXPEED 5 image processor will play a part in this. In any event, the D7500 looks set to be a terrific low-light camera.
